HPD promotions include milestone
The Honolulu Police Department promoted 30 officers at a ceremony downtown Wednesday, including one officer who will become the first woman to lead the department’s Vehicular Homicide Section.
Sgt. Carlene Lau, a 13-year HPD veteran, is currently with the Waikiki district but will take over Sunday as lieutenant of the Vehicular Homicide Section in HPD’s Traffic Division. She will be the first woman to lead the section, which investigates collisions involving deaths, critical injuries and felony traffic crimes, said Teresa Bell, HPD spokeswoman.
Lt. Robert Towne, the current section head, will make a routine transfer in the department, Bell said.
Also at the ceremony, 14 officers were promoted to sergeant or detective. They are Ulysses Balmilero, Darren Cachola, Lowell Coronil, Fredderick Degala, Cory Gibson, Kelvin Hayakawa, Ryan Hironaka, Kristopher Kiyabu, Michael Noh, Angela Payne-Vasquez, Sharie Souza, Philip Trani III, Dale Uemura and Jonathan Yee.
Also, 15 officers received a promotion to corporal: Brian Carnate, Edson Duncan, Robert Frank II, Chad Gushikuma, Creighton Hatico, Casey Kailihiwa, Denice Kashiwai, Matthew Kurihara, Adam Lipka, Jason Malacas, Scott Matsumura, Scott Nielson, Kendall Prochnow, Wallace Salazar Jr. and Kyle Suemori.
All promotions take effect Sunday.
