Honolulu’s John Oda defeated Malaysia’s Gavin Green, 2 and 1, in the third round of U.S. Men’s Public Links tournament in Newton, Kansas, on Thursday.
Oda, who beat Chelso Barrett (Surry, N.H.) 1 up in the second round on Thursday, will face Doug Ghim (Arlington Heights, Ill.) in Friday’s quarterfinal.
In the U.S. Women’s Public Links in Dupont, Wash., all Hawaii golfers were eliminated, with two losing in the second round and two in the third.
Wailuku’s Cassy Isagawa lost to Fumie (Alice) Jo of China, 4 and 2, and Eimi Koga fell to Eun Jeong Seong of South Korea, 3 and 1, in the third round.
Rose Huang lost to Doris Chen (Bradenton, Fla.), 3 and 2, and Kaci Masuda lost to Jennifer Yang (Republic of Korea), also 3 and 2, in the second round.
