Woman, 42, charged in beating death
Prosecutors charged a 42-year-old Salt Lake woman Tuesday in the beating death of a woman in downtown Honolulu.
Kimberly Udo is charged with second-degree murder. Her bail was set at $500,000.
Police arrested Udo at South Hotel Street and Fort Street Mall, following a fight that occurred at 4:30 a.m. Monday at Adams Lane and Bishop Street.
The 46-year-old victim was taken in critical condition to the hospital, where she died.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office said the victim died of blunt force injuries to the head and neck and that the manner of her death was a homicide.
She has not been identified.
Man arrested upon release from hospital
Hawaii County police arrested a 38-year-old Pahoa man on suspicion of first- and second-degree attempted murder for allegedly trying to run down two officers Monday with his sport utility vehicle.
Police arrested Riley Asuncion just before 7 p.m. Monday for alleged terroristic threatening after he was released from a hospital.
Assistant Police Chief Henry Tavares said Tuesday that Asuncion was in stable condition after he suffered a “superficial wound” in the torso after shots were fired by police. He said police were still investigating what caused the wound.
The shots were fired when he allegedly tried to run over officers while they were pursuing a vehicle on foot.
Police also arrested Asuncion on suspicion of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and assault of a 30-year-old woman in downtown Hilo.
Police said the woman, who is an acquaintance of the suspect, was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute with him inside his pink SUV in Panaewa. She managed to escape, police said. Officers found the SUV and tried to make contact with the driver, but he fled in it.
Police followed the SUV to Stainback Highway. The man turned onto a side road and drove recklessly toward two officers who had gotten out of their vehicles, police said.
Officers fired three shots at the SUV while it continued down the highway, police said.
It stopped a short distance away, and the suspect fled into some bushes.
Police found the man shortly afterward, arrested him and took him to Hilo Medical Center.
Suspect charged with attempted murder
A 27-year-old Salt Lake man was charged Tuesday with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing and critically injuring a man over the weekend.
Matthew Bright of Loina Place was charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault. He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Police said Bright stabbed a 24-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a stomach wound.
The victim of the kidnapping and sexual assault was a 26-year-old woman.
Police issued a missing-person bulletin Sunday for Bright and a 26-year-old woman after they were involved in a domestic incident and last seen in the downtown area.
The search ended at 6:30 p.m. Sunday with Bright’s arrest on Maunalani Circle.
