Man arrested on attempted murder charge
Hawaii County police have arrested a 32-year-old Puna man indicted on charges including attempted murder.
Gilbert Waiau of Pahoa was arrested Monday on a bench warrant after a grand jury indicted him on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree attempted assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree criminal property damage.
The charges stem from an April 30, 2013, domestic dispute in which Waiau allegedly tried to run a 23-year-old woman off the road, hit her car with his and tried to run her down.
County told it will lose space for DMV
KAHULUI » Maui County officials say they are looking for a new home for its motor vehicle division and some of its tax offices because the new owners of the Maui Mall want to rent space to commercial enterprises instead.
County officials and members of the public visited two potential sites Monday, the Maui News reported.
Owners of the Mall are giving the county until 2016 to move. The county’s lease was expected to end in 2015, but the owners extended it by a year with the option of another extension.
