Feral pigs, human pigs create pollution in Palolo
Oahu’s natural environment is under constant pressure, and when it rains hard, damage can intensify. The latest example is in Palolo, where raw sewage overflowed because vandals maliciously stuffed a manhole with all sorts of junk. That spill tainted waters far downstream — all the way to popular surf spots such as Ala Moana Bowls.
That problem was especially bad, but it turns out that just about any amount of rain in the area causes brown water runoff, because feral pigs have destroyed foliage that used to keep dirt and debris out of Palolo Stream. The area needs some intensive attention, to deter damage by humans and animals alike.
