Nuns with the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities prepared to carry the remains of St. Marianne Cope into the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace on Thursday morning. Cope’s remains were enshrined in the cathedral and now sit in a display cabinet, though they will eventually be placed in a connecting chapel that also will contain a relic each from Cope and St. Damien de Veuster.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu’s Bishop Larry Silva blessed the remains of St. Marianne Cope on Thursday at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace downtown. Cope’s remains, encased in a box covered with traditional kapa cloth and a Hawaiian-flag quilt, were enshrined at the cathedral. For more on Cope and the day’s events, see Page A20.
