"The Admiral: Roaring Currents," a box-office hit in Korea that was released on July 30 and has already sold more than 4.7 million tickets, will open at Pearlridge Consolidated Theatres on Friday. The Korean title "Myeong-ryang" is a legendary naval battle that occurred during the Japanese invasion of Korea from 1592 to 1598. On Sept. 16, 1597, Admiral Sun-shin Yi won the battle at Myeong-ryang sea with only 12 ships against a Japanese fleet of 133 ships (the film exaggerates the number to 330 Japanese ships). Admiral Yi’s statue stands in the heart of Seoul at Gwanghwamoon. Min Shik Choi of "Old Boy" plays Admiral Yi.
