Missing man found dead in Kaneohe
The body of a 53-year-old man reported missing Thursday was found Saturday around noon in Kaneohe.
Police do not believe that foul play was involved in the death of William Vincent of Kaneohe. The case has been classified as an unattended death.
Police said Vincent was emotionally distraught and had not been seen or heard from since 8 a.m. Thursday, when he was seen leaving his home.
Sleeping woman falls into Ala Wai Canal
A 63-year-old woman is in serious condition after almost drowning in the Ala Wai Canal on Saturday afternoon, Emergency Medical Services said.
The woman was sleeping on the wall of the Ala Wai Canal near McCully Street and rolled off into the water around 1:37 p.m., EMS said.
Bystanders pulled her out of the water, and EMS transported her to a hospital.
Escaped OCCC inmate caught in Makiki
An Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate who had been on the loose for nearly a month was arrested by police Friday night in Makiki.
Kristopher Shafer, 37, was supposed to report to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on July14. He was arrested for second-degree escape at 6:15 p.m. Friday on Wilder Avenue near the Makiki Shopping Village.
Shafer was serving time for a parole violation. He now faces up to five years added to his sentence for the escape charge.
Laumaka is a minimum-security work furlough center for community custody inmates. It is a block away from OCCC. Inmates assigned to Laumaka are either actively seeking employment or working in the community.
House fire causes $100,000 in damage
Hawaii County firefighters responded to a house fire in Pahoa early Saturday morning that left $100,000 in damage.
The fire broke out around 3:14 a.m. at a one-story house on Tradewind Drive.
It was under control at 3:38 a.m. and extinguished at 3:40 a.m.
The garage was fully involved in the fire, HFD said.
No one was home at the time.
The cause is still under investigation.
