Crabb, Averill lead U.S. over Mexico
Honolulu’s Taylor Crabb put down a match-high 17 kills and University of Hawaii middle Taylor Averill added 10 kills as the U.S. swept host Mexico 31-29, 25-23, 25-23 Wednesday to remain undefeated at the IX Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup in Tijuana.
Averill, an incoming senior for the Rainbow Warriors, added two blocks and two aces as the U.S. improved to 2-0 in pool play. Crabb, a Punahou graduate, recently completed his All-American career at Long Beach State.
Quarterfinal play opens Thursday.
Manoa splits in 10U Ripken World Series
The 10U Manoa baseball team defeated Virginia champion Williamsburg 4-3, but fell to Lexington (Ky.) 4-3 in pool play Wednesday at the 10U Cal Ripken World Series in Winchester, Va.
Manoa will finish pool play against Cranston (R.I.) at 3 a.m. HST on Thursday. If Manoa wins, it will advance to the quarterfinals set for 11:30 a.m.
