Calip catches Oda for share of lead
Reigning Manoa Cup champion Nainoa Calip shot a 68 to tie John Oda for the lead after the second round of the Oahu Country Club Invitational on Friday.
Calip had six birdies and three bogeys to finish the two rounds at 137. Oda, the first-round leader, shot a 73 on Friday. P.J. Samiere is two shots back at 139, followed by 1998 champion Brandan Kop, David Saka and Brian Lee at 141.
The leaders tee off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Gary Kong won the senior flight by three strokes over defending champion Dr. Carl Ho. Kong finished at 148 after Friday’s 73, Ho shot a 151.
Hekili opens World Series with win
Skyler Yamamoto limited Lexington, Ky., to two runs over six innings and Hekili won 12-2 in the opener of pool play at the Babe Ruth 14-under World Series in Ocala, Fla., on Friday.
Ryne Oshiro, Andrew Oasay and Justin Fernandez each paired hits for the Hawaii team. Hekili plays Westfield, Mass., on Saturday.
Manoa’s run ends at Ripken Series
Kailen Kimata gave up only one run in four innings, but host Lexington, Ky., beat Manoa 3-2 in the semifinals of the 10-under Cal Ripken World Series on Friday.
Kaikea Harrison and Parker Grant drove in the runs for the Hawaii team.
