Just as breakfast has picked up steam in Honolulu, so has tea.
Sunday marked the debut of afternoon tea at MW restaurant, and what a tea it is, combining the compatible prowess of the husband-and-wife team of Wade Ueoka and Michelle Karr-Ueoka.
Theirs is not a rote menu. He provided such delectable savory edibles as a spicy ahi BLT and Chinese roast duck sandwich, with $5 add-ons that included a foie gras and pork bao bun, potato vicchyssoise topped with caviar and lobster corn dumpling.
She offered nine sweet bites that included a Meyer lemon meringue tart, macadamia nut praline bar, light Japan-style azuki matcha mousse cake and baklava.
Among tea choices were lychee acai and MW chai.
The event is scheduled to take place the third Sunday of the month, but this is the time to make reservations because those who attended the inaugural event vowed to return.
Prices may fluctuate with the menu, but the inaugural tea was $35. MW is at 1538 Kapiolani Blvd. Call 955-6505.
