The $415 million SLS Las Vegas opened on schedule at midnight on Aug. 23. Located on the far north end of the Strip, the hotel’s 1,620 rooms are situated in three renovated towers that were built in three different decades at the former Sahara, which closed in 2011.
The trendy resort has nine restaurants, three nightclub/lounges, two pools — one of which is on the roof — and bars everywhere, including an outdoor beer garden that looks out onto Las Vegas Boulevard.
While it’s being touted as the first new Strip resort to open since the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in 2010, the people at The Cromwell, which opened in April of this year, might take issue. But SLS is certainly the biggest resort to open since the Cosmopolitan.
White Castle coming: An outlet of the famous White Castle hamburger chain is coming to Las Vegas. White Castle’s first west coast restaurant is slated for the Casino Royale at center Strip. No details yet on an opening date, but it looks like some time in 2015.
Wheel deal: The High Roller wheel at The Linq has a new deal for families. On Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. only, you can get a $49.95 package that includes two adult tickets, three children’s tickets (12 and under), three sets of High Roller binoculars that you can keep, and three juice drinks. Since adult day-ride tickets are regularly $24.95, it’s like getting the rest thrown in for free.
Downtown Elvis: The Elvis Presley impersonation show Spirit of the King has opened at the Four Queens downtown. The show’s star is Steve Connolly, one of the best Elvis artists of the last 20 years, who’s played the LV Hilton, Riviera, and had a long run at Fitzgeralds before it was the D. Tickets are $27.50/$40.50.
QUESTION: With Celine Dion out at Caesars Palace, is there speculation on a replacement?
ANSWER: Plenty. The biggest names being thrown around are Mariah Carey, Adele, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Diana Ross and Madonna. Nothing is solid.
