Episode 6: "Rock the Wedding"
Last week the "Project Runway" designers met at Webster Hall, a fabulous concert venue dressed up for a Goth wedding. They were greeted by Tim Gunn with burlesque performer Dita Von Teese on his arm. With Gunn noting today’s anything-goes weddings, the designers were challenged to create an alternative wedding ensemble and reception dress for a nontraditional marriage ceremony.
The designers separated into teams and Hawaii’s Kini Zamora was paired with Sean Kelly. Zamora expressed the fear that he will go home if they are the bottom team because Kelly won in the previous challenge and has immunity from elimination. They came up with the idea of creating an ensemble for a gay wedding with feminine/masculine elements.
Once again, Zamora worked quickly and finished his coat dress with a dramatic side flounce, while Kelly spent an inordinate amount of time on one pair of tuxedo pants. Zamora kept asking him if he was done yet, and during on-camera interviews expressed frustration because, according to Zamora, it’s just a pair of pants, which he finds easy to make. Zamora took the initiative of making a top for Kelly because he was so slow.
During judging, only Zamora and Kelly won praise. Designer Zac Posen called their creations "the best of the best" on the runway and proclaimed them "the dream team."
In studying the garments up close, Dita said of their work: "This is what it means to be a designer," and that she would wear both ensembles.
Show co-host and judge Heidi Klum called Zamora’s work impeccable and the judges asked Kelly that if they were to be the winning team, which designer should have the win? He replied that Zamora should win because he’d been on the top so often and deserved a win, but didn’t tell the judges that Zamora made the flowing white top they loved. They loved it so much, in fact, that it was the item that gave Kelly the win.
In another on-camera interview, Zamora said it should have been his win and that he was robbed. I agree and think he was way too nice by not taking credit for the blouse when he had the chance.
Meanwhile, on the bottom, Char Glover, paired with Sandhya Garg on the losing team, was sent home for her sloppy work.
