Snorkeler who died was Kapolei man
The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who died at a hospital after snorkeling Sunday at Ko Olina as Carl Wolfe, 41, of Kapolei.
Wolfe was pulled unconscious from waters off Aliinui Drive at about 12:30 p.m. Foul play is not suspected.
Wolfe was one of four people who died during the three-day Labor Day weekend in unrelated water accidents. The others are:
» Dante Biacan, 38, of Waipahu, who died Saturday after being pulled from the ocean at Malaekahana State Recreation Area. He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
» Leighton Mow, 17, a senior at Moanalua High School, who died Monday while on an outing with friends at Kapena Falls.
» Daniel Mindich, 48, an English teacher at Punahou School, who died Monday after being pulled from the water while taking part in the Waikiki Roughwater Swim.
Suspect charged in burglary attempt
Prosecutors charged a 25-year-old homeless man Tuesday with first-degree attempted burglary for attempting to break into a 78-year-old man’s house in Kalani Iki while the man was at home.
Jamison Janusz was charged with first-degree attempted burglary and first-degree attempted unauthorized entry into a dwelling. His bail was set at $35,000.
Police said Janusz tried to open the resident’s sliding glass doors and a window at 4 p.m. Monday. The man called 911 and the suspect fled, police said. He was found at 4:27 p.m. nearby on Kumakani Loop and arrested.
Hilo assault leads to arrest, charges
A man has been charged with three offenses in connection with an assault Saturday evening in Hilo.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old Hilo man reported that while he was in a parked vehicle off Piopio Street, an acquaintance struck him in the arm with a metal object and threatened additional physical harm.
At 9:20 p.m., police arrested 31-year-old Joshua Resun of Hilo. He was charged Sunday with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, third-degree assault and second-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $3,000.
