Man held in murder attempt
Hawaii County police arrested a 62-year-old Kau man Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder and other offenses for allegedly hitting an 85-year-old Ocean View man during a domestic dispute in May.
Rayner Kinney Jr. was charged Wednesday with drug offenses and protective order violations and held in lieu of $1,250 bail.
Police said the older man reported that, at his Kona Gardens subdivision home, Kinney beat him with his fists May 22. He reported that the 62-year-old also struck him with a metal and wooden objects, and kicked him. The 85-year-old received injuries to his head, arms and body, and was taken to his doctor by private vehicle, police said.
