Firefighters rescued two hikers Sunday from separate trails on Oahu.
At 10:53 a.m. firefighters responded to a report of an injured female hiker, 27, at the Tom Tom Trail in Makapuu after a rock fell on her head. The size of the rock is unknown.
The Honolulu Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter conducted a search along the ridge and lowered rescuers to the ridgeline after they spotted the hiker, spokesman Kevin Mokulehua said.
Mokulehua said the hiker suffered a large gash on the top of her head but was alert.
Fire rescue crews treated her injury before Air 1 flew her to a landing zone at Sandy Beach. Paramedics took her to the Queen’s Medical Center.
City Emergency Medical Services did not have information on her condition.
At 12:24 p.m. firefighters responded to another injured female hiker, 19, at the Kaau Crater Trail in Palolo Valley. Rescuers hiked in and located the woman near the third stream crossing.
Mokulehua said the hiker attempted to climb a rope near a waterfall when she slipped, fell approximately 10 feet and landed on her back on some rocks.
The rescue helicopter flew the hiker to a nearby landing zone, where paramedics took her in stable condition to a hospital. Mokulehua said the hiker was conscious and alert.
