3 officers injured in Central Oahu incidents
Three Honolulu police officers were injured and in stable condition and a 47-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop in Wahiawa led to a police chase that ended with a car crash in Mililani.
Police said an officer pulled the man over for driving with expired registration and safety tags at about 11 a.m. on Ohai Place in Wahiawa.
When officers approached the parked car, the driver "tried to run them over," a police spokeswoman said in an emailed statement. "One of the officers was injured as he jumped out of the way," she said.
The driver fled in the car, and police located it in Mililani, where the vehicle was seen moving erratically before crashing on Makaimoimo Street near Lanikuhana Avenue.
The driver got out of the car and allegedly assaulted police officers, police said. Two more officers were hurt in the incident, said police, who declined to detail the extent of their injuries.
Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault, reckless driving, refusing to stop and resisting arrest.
Police also arrested the female passenger, a minor, on charges unrelated to Wednesday’s incident.
City Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene at Lanikuhana Avenue, transporting a 37-year-old man to a hospital with an injury to his arm.
The three officers have 12, 14 and 26 years of service with the Honolulu Police Department.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Robert Kapopolu Jr., 58, of Waianae as the pedestrian who died Tuesday after an apparent hit-and-run accident.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said Kapopolu died of multiple blunt forces injuries at the Waianae Comprehensive Health Center, where he was taken in extremely critical condition.
Emergency Medical Services said the man was found lying on Farrington Highway near Kaupuni Street near the Waianae Taco Bell after the crash.
Police arrested a 47-year-old woman on suspicion of accidental death and two outstanding warrants at a nearby boat harbor. She was released pending further investigation.
