Driver strikes officer with stolen vehicle
Honolulu police opened an attempted murder investigation after an officer was struck by a stolen vehicle whose driver fled the scene early Sunday morning.
The driver was still at large Sunday evening.
The incident happened at about 2:20 a.m. in the Punchbowl area on Lusitana Street between Puowaina Drive and Huali Street.
Officers stopped the suspect upon learning the vehicle was stolen.
That’s when the driver struck the officer with the vehicle and sped off, police said. Paramedics took the 30-year-old officer to the hospital in serious condition.
Police closed Lusitana Street but reopened it by about 4:30 a.m.
