High temperatures and localized heavy showers continued around the state Sunday.
Maui County matched a heat record Sunday for the date. The high of 93 degrees tied a record set in 1977.
It was the second day of record temperatures for Maui.
A high temperature record of 95 degrees was set Saturday at Kahului Airport. It broke the old record of 90 set in 1991.
On Saturday, Hilo tied a record of 90 degrees, set in 1981, and has set or tied records for the past four days. Friday’s temperature, 90 degrees, beat the record of 89 set in 1974.
Thursday’s 89 degrees tied a 1995 record. Wednesday’s 89 degrees tied a 1995 record.
There should be some relief from the heat and humidity of the past few weeks beginning Monday as light tradewinds return to the islands. A wetter tradewind pattern is expected during the second half of the week.
Meanwhile, heavy showers and thunderstorms Sunday prompted a flood advisory for Hawaii island.
At 4:36 p.m. Sunday radar showed scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms with rain rates of more than 2 inches per hour over the slopes of Kau. The heaviest rain fell near Wood Valley and Pahala.
The advisory was in effect until 8 p.m.
Isolated heavy showers with rain rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour eased over Oahu, and the National Weather Service canceled a flood advisory for Central and Leeward Oahu that had been posted at about 3 p.m.
