Finding the hidden numbers of ‘Lost’

Part of the fun of watching “Lost” was dissecting each episode for obscure clues and motifs referencing the show’s overarching mythology.

The practice of using such inside jokes or hidden messages — called “Easter eggs” — first gained popularity in the video game universe. “Lost” brought them to a wider audience by playing with character names and other plot points, and, most prominently, with Hurley’s lottery numbers — 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 — which showed up in various combinations throughout “Lost’s” six seasons.

We thought we’d have a little fun of our own hiding some Easter eggs in our special “Lost” 10th-anniversary coverage. Did you spot them? First, the rules to our “Get Lost” photo contest contained all six numbers.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort played along for Monday’s story on “Lost” actors by posting a sign in the background of Mike Gordon’s interview with Daniel Dae Kim and Jorge Garcia pointing the way to the Widmore Corp. meeting at 8:15 a.m. (the Oceanic flight number) in Room 4. And young William Blanchette was a sport by wearing a Phillies No. 8 jersey during a photo shoot for Monday’s story on the children recruited to play Baby Aaron.
