Rainbow Wahine soccer beats alumnae
Goals by Kama Pascua and Olivia Stanford boosted the Hawaii soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the UH alumnae in an exhibition on Saturday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The alumnae featured Natasha Kai, who played at UH from 2002 to 2005 and went on to become an Olympic gold medalist. Kai was largely held in check, and her clean scoring looks were few.
"We wanted (our players) to enjoy it, and we wanted them to be productive, and I think we did that," UH coach Michele Nagamine said. "It was nice to see some familiar faces from the past. Our pregame talk was, ‘Keep Tasha Kai in front of you … and don’t make her mad.’ "
Pascua, a sophomore, lofted in a shot in the 13th minute, and Stanford, a senior, connected in the 18-yard box in the 72nd.
UH (5-5) opens Big West Conference play at home on Thursday against Cal State Fullerton.
