Man allegedly chokes wife
Police arrested a 27-year-old Kaneohe man early Sunday morning for allegedly choking his wife in front of their two minor children.
According to police, the suspect and his 27-year-old wife were arguing when the suspect grabbed the woman’s throat. The woman later complained of neck pain.
The incident allegedly occurred at about 4:45 a.m.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony assault on a family or household member and interfering with the reporting of an emergency.
A new state law, which took effect June 20, makes physical abuse in the presence of a child under 14, who is a family or household member, a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.
Woman nabbed in drug crimes
Hawaii County police charged a Kona woman with multiple drug offenses Friday after she was found in a stolen car with what appeared to be drugs and drug paraphernalia.
According to police, Kona patrol officers stopped the vehicle on Maiau Street on Wednesday after it was reported stolen. The car was operated by a juvenile. Also in the car were 35-year-old Sharon Pihi, a man, 30, and another woman, 36.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found 1.5 ounces of a crystalline substance, 24 various prescription pills, 6.7 grams of a dried green leafy substance and paraphernalia associated with narcotics distribution and use. Officers also recovered $850 in currency.
The juvenile driver, the older man and the 36-year-old woman were released pending further investigation.
On Friday police charged Pihi with methamphetamine trafficking, promoting dangerous drugs, promoting harmful drugs, promoting detrimental drugs and drug paraphernalia. Her aggregate bail for the drug-related charges was set at $302,000.
Pihi was also charged for revocation of probation, with additional bail set at $25,000.
