Hawaii’s Justin Williamson, playing with former and future Kailua resident Scott Simpson, opened last week’s Nature Valley First Tee Open Pro-Junior with rounds of 67-69 and missed the cut by two.
The top 23 of 81 pro-junior teams advanced to the final day of the Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Williamson is a member of The First Tee of Hawaii and Hawaii State Junior Golf Association.
Junior Christopher Meyers made double-eagle on Pebble’s 18th hole Sunday to leapfrog two teams and win the pro-junior team competition with partner Lee Janzen. They had a better-ball score of 22-under 193 — after Meyers holed out from 203 yards on the last hole — to win by two.
Huang still hot
Rose Huang’s hot summer streak has continued into fall. The ‘Iolani senior won the girls’ oldest age division at last weekend’s Oahu Junior Classic, a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association event at Turtle Bay Fazio.
Huang shot 67-69 to finish at 8-under-par 136 and win the 15-18 flight by two shots over Allisen Corpuz.
Punahou junior Kyle Suppa (68-70) and teammate Colin Laszlo (71-67) tied for first in the boys’ oldest division. Suppa won the trophy in a scorecard match, while both received first-place points and a Tournament of Champions invitation.
Other winners were Malia Nam (72–143) and Evan Kawai (80–150) in the 13-14 division, Jennifer Koga (76–146) and Kona Kashiwagi (77–151) in 11-12 and Minny Byun (77–152) and Joshua Hayashida (70–154) in 10-under.
The HSJGA Kiahuna Junior Classic is Saturday and Sunday on Kauai.
