Academy of Art edges UH Hilo
Melissa Brum hammered 31 kills and picked up 20 digs to lead Academy of Art over University of Hawaii Hilo 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 27-25 in a PacWest women’s volleyball match on Wednesday in San Francisco.
The Urban Knights (8-5, 3-2 PacWest) served six aces to the Vulcans’ one and outdug UH Hilo 123-111. Marley Strand-Nicolaisen led the Vulcans with 18 kills and a team-high 24 digs in the loss. Hawaii Hilo drops its record to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in conference.
No. 4 Seasiders pull off five-set thriller
Shih Ting Chen finished with a career-high 30 kills to lift the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s volleyball squad over Fresno Pacific University 18-25, 26-24, 21-25, 28-26, 15-9 on Wednesday in Fresno, Calif.
Chen picked up her fifth double-double of the season, adding 19 digs to her career night. Freshman Ashley Mataele recorded a team-high 26 digs for the Seasiders (7-3, 4-0 PacWest) in the win.
Rupia Inck led the Sunbirds (7-6, 1-3) with 24 kills and 14 digs in the loss.
