Search ends for missing fisherman
After four days the Hawaii County Fire Department ended its search for a fisherman swept off a boat in Pohoiki Bay.
There was no sign of the missing fisherman, Charles Rosecranes, 65.
Fire rescue personnel spent Saturday conducting aerial searches up to a mile offshore from Kalapana to Kapoho Bay.
The effort also included scuba operations in and around Pohokai Pay and a coastal search using a rescue boat. The bay is in the Puna District, south of Cape Kumukahi.
Rosecranes was making engine repairs to the 15-foot boat when he reportedly fell overboard at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. He was fishing with a friend.
Also involved in the search were a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules and MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Barbers Point, and the 110-foot cutter Kiska, home-ported in Hilo.
