Alleged burglars charged on Big Island
Hawaii County police have charged two men in unrelated burglaries.
A Puna man was charged in connection with a break-in in August.
On Aug. 27, a 56-year-old Keaau woman reported that an unknown person went into her home and removed jewelry.
Police recovered surveillance video and identified the suspect as 30-year-old Kawai Pomroy of Mountain View.
Officers from the burglary task force arrested him Monday at Hawaii Community Correctional Center, where he was being held for an unrelated incident. On Tuesday, he was charged with first-degree burglary.
His bail was set at $25,000.
Separately, police charged 35-year-old Josiah Ikaika Konanui of Hilo in connection with a burglary in Hawaiian Beaches in September 2013.
A 45-year-old man reported that numerous items, including fishing poles, had been removed from his home. A police investigation led to the recovery of some of the items and to the identity of the suspect.
Last month police asked for the public’s help in locating Konanui.
Konanui was arrested by the burglary task force on Friday and charged with first-degree burglary, fourth degree theft and contempt of court. His bail was set at $6,250.
After his arrest, he was held at the Hilo police cellblock until his initial court appearance on Monday.
