Wahine finish 11th in Washington
The Rainbow Wahine golf team placed 11th in the two-day Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Wednesday at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.
Nichole Cruz and Kelli-Ann Katsuda were UH’s top scorers with totals of 11-over 155 and the Wahine finished at 46-over 622. Katsuda’s opening-round 74 was UH’s best 18 holes of the tournament, which was shortened to two rounds due to fog that delayed play on Tuesday.
UHhosts the Rainbow Wahine Invitational set for Oct. 21-23 at Leilehua Golf Course.
» The Rainbow Warriors open their fall schedule on Monday in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by California, in Fairfax, Calif. Coach Ronn Miyashiro’s team returns seniors Ryan Kuroiwa and Brian Lee. Kuroiwa won the Aloha @ Oahu Invitational last year while Lee completed the year with a ninth-place finish at the Big West Championship.

UH resumes season in Laie
After a week off, the Rainbow Wahine head to the North Shore on Saturday to compete in the Chaminade Invitational on the BYU-Hawaii campus.
Freshman Montana Martinez has led the team in each of the season’s first four meets.
SOFTBALL
Fall practice opens Monday
Fall preparations begin Monday for a Rainbow Wahine softball team looking for a bounce-back season this spring.
The 2015 Wahine team opens fall practice coming off a 22-28 season. Senior first baseman Leisha Li’ili’i (.401, 15 home runs, 39 RBIs) is the top returning player.
Pitchers Loie Kesterson and Heather Morales also return. The staff added Georgia Tech transfer Kanani Aina Cabrales.
The team will cap the fall with the Kama’aina Tournament featuring BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and UH-Hilo on Nov. 7-8 and the alumnae game Nov. 15.
