Blazes destroys house in Ewa Beach
A 52-year-old Ewa Beach man escaped serious injury as fire destroyed his one-story home Friday afternoon.
The fire was first reported at 12:38 p.m. Honolulu Fire Department personnel arrived at the Pohakupuna Road residence within 10 minutes to find the structure engulfed in flames.
The lone occupant of the house was able to escape on his own but suffered burns to his arms. He was treated by paramedics before being transported to an area hospital.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by 1:19 p.m.
Thirty firefighters from eight companies responded to the fire.
Damage estimates were not yet available Friday, but the house is being considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A structure behind the home was also damaged.
Police closed Pohakupuna Street between Makule Road and Fort Weaver Road while HFD operations were underway.
Homeless man not charged over threat
Prosectors declined to charge a 52-year-old homeless man who allegedly threatened a 44-year-old woman on a city bus Tuesday.
Police said the man allegedly threatened the female passenger on a bus in Haleiwa with a dangerous instrument at 3:50 p.m.
Responding officers found the man on foot at Kamehameha and Joseph P. Leong highways and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
