Central Oahu motorists should be prepared to use alternate routes this week along Kamehameha Highway, which will be closed in both directions from Ka Uka Boulevard to Lanikuhana Avenue for night construction work, according to the Department of Transportation.
The full closures will be in place from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly, beginning Sunday and ending Friday morning.
Crews will be reconstructing and resurfacing the road and installing striping and markers.
In addition, daytime single-lane closures on Kamehameha Highway will continue in both directions from Lanikuhana Avenue to Waihau Street for guardrail, sidewalk/curb and bus pad work. The daytime closures are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Motorists are urged to use alternate routes such as Meheula Parkway and Ka Uka Boulevard to the H-2 freeway.
Kipapa Gulch residents will be able to access the area through the project site as needed.
Electronic message boards have been placed near Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue with upcoming work schedules.
The DOT said the Kamehameha Highway roadwork is part of its effort to resurface Oahu’s main corridors. Lane closure schedules and information are available at hidot.hawaii.gov.
