Blind adventurer to give free talk
Erik Weihenmayer lost his vision at the age of 13, but that didn’t stop him from going on to climb the world’s "Seven Summits" and Mount Everest.
Weihenmayer, 46, is an accomplished athlete and adventurer who is redefining what it means to be blind. He recently completed a 21-day kayak trip through the Grand Canyon.
He will share his inspirational story at a free presentation called "The No Barriers Life" at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The event, sponsored by Hawaii Pacific Health, also will be broadcast via live streaming video at the Kauai Marriott Resort.
Tickets, while free, are required for admission and can be obtained via nobarriershi.eventbrite.com. Parking is available for $6 at the center’s parking structure, 1355 Lower Campus Road.
