2 golfers set Hawaii Pacific record
Hawaii Pacific’s Susanna Sarkki and Sydney Lee both shot 83s at the Dixie State Invitational on Tuesday to set a school record with a collective 337 in the tournament’s second round in St. George, Utah. Sarkki bested her first-round score by four strokes, while Lee shaved seven strokes from the previous day, when HPU shot a 346.
The Sharks finished in ninth place with a team score of 683 and also individually shot under 90 for the first time this season. Western Washington claimed the top spot with a final score of 610 on the Sunbrook Golf Course.
Zietz wins heat at Portugal
Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz scored a 16.10 in the opening round of the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal on Tuesday at the iconic Supertubos in Peniche. Zietz beat out three-time ASP world champion Mick Fanning and Raoni Monteiro in 3- to 5-foot waves to advance to Round 3.
John John Florence, who is coming off a win at the Quiksilver Pro France, will face Nic Von Rupp in Round 2, while Haleiwa’s Fredrick Patacchia will take on Mitch Crews.
