Paraglider injured in landing on rocks
A 29-year-old paraglider suffered a broken right leg and left ankle Wednesday after a hard landing on the rocks near "Baby Makapuu" off Kalanianaole Highway.
Fire Capt. David Jenkins said firefighters treated the man and took him to a hospital in serious condition.
The fire department received the call at 2:45 p.m. and firefighters were on scene at 2:57 p.m.
Man critical after hitting police vehicle
A motorcyclist was critically injured Wednesday after running into a police vehicle in Waikiki.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Kalakaua Avenue between John Ena Road and Hobron Lane, police confirmed. Emergency Medical Services paramedics transported the motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man, in critical condition to a hospital.
Ala Wai Boulevard’s eastbound lanes were closed as police investigated.
Sex-assault suspect allowed to travel
A 19-year-old freshman at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Johnson Hall dormitory last month, will be allowed to visit his home in Oregon.
Tyler Strong was charged Sept. 22 with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree of sexual assault. He is free after posting bond of $60,000.
Circuit Judge Randal Lee on Tuesday granted a motion — made by Strong’s attorney over the objection of city prosecutors — to travel to Eugene, Ore., on Oct. 30 and return to Hawaii Nov. 3. Strong’s Circuit Court trial is scheduled to begin on Dec. 4.
Police arrested him at 6 a.m. Sept. 21 at Johnson Hall on Dole Street, after the case was reported at 5 a.m.
Rock-throwing incident leads to arrest
A 20-year-old Waianae man was in custody Wednesday for allegedly throwing a rock at two women who were sitting in a van July 27 in Waianae, police said.
The rock shattered the window of the van, injuring one of the women, police said.
Officers arrested the suspect Monday morning in Waianae on suspicion of abuse and first-degree criminal property damage.
