Man allegedly assaults mother
Police arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 74-year-old mother at her Ewa Beach home.
Police said the man used to live with his mother, and while at her home 7 p.m. Tuesday, he allegedly assaulted her during an argument and fled.
The woman sustained substantial bodily injury, police said.
The son showed up at the house again Wednesday, and officers arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault.
The woman has a temporary restraining order against her son because of prior incidents.
Officer on desk duty after crash
Police have opened a negligent-injury case after a Waikiki patrol officer making a U-turn while trying to make a traffic stop in a marked vehicle was hit by a motorcyclist.
The 37-year-old driver of the motorcycle was taken in critical condition to the hospital. However, police said his condition was upgraded to serious but stable after he was hospitalized.
The officer was not injured.
The police officer, a six-year veteran, has been placed on desk duty while police investigate the incident, which is classified as a second-degree negligent-injury case.
Police said the officer was headed into Waikiki just before noon Wednesday on Kalakaua Avenue when he observed a traffic violation near Ena Road.
The officer was making a U-turn through a median when the motorcycle and police car collided, police said.
