2 men injured after 30-foot fall at UH
Two men, both age 21, were in serious condition after a 30-foot fall near the University of Hawaii at Manoa dormitories early Saturday morning, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
The incident happened at 1:39 a.m. at 2569 Dole St. on the staircase between Gateway Hall and Johnson Hall that leads to the football practice field, paramedics said.
Both men were transported to the hospital.
Suspicious Chinatown fire prompts inquiry
Police and fire officials are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that occurred Friday night in Chinatown.
At 11:33 p.m., firefighters responded to call of a Toyota pickup truck on fire on the fifth floor of an open-air parking garage. The fire was under control at 11:49 p.m.
Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. James Todd said two vehicles parked on each side of the truck also were damaged.
There were conflicting reports about whether the truck was stolen. Police said the vehicle wasn’t stolen; however, Todd said it was believed to be stolen.
Firefighters returned to the site Saturday morning to assist police in retrieving tools, extension cords and other items atop trees near the parking garage.
Investigators are looking into whether there is a link between the vehicle fire and the items that appeared to have been thrown from the parking garage.
Damage is estimated at $30,000. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Police hunt for robbery suspect in Moiliili
Police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a restaurant in Moiliili.
At about 5 p.m. Friday, the suspect, wearing a black mask and a hat, entered a McDonald’s restaurant brandishing a dangerous instrument and demanded money. Police said he fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police are continuing their investigation.
Waianae man arrested in abuse case
Police arrested a 31-year-old Waianae man Saturday for allegedly punching and choking a 24-year-old woman.
At about noon Oct. 1, the victim reported the suspect allegedly punched the back of her head and choked her.
At about 3:50 a.m. Saturday, police encountered the suspect at a traffic stop on Komo Mai Drive in Pearl City.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of the felony abuse case and two contempt warrants.
Traffic stop leads to arrest of 3 men
A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of three people in Waikiki after police found a gun and Taser inside their vehicle.
Police said an officer saw a vehicle run a stop sign in Waikiki at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
The officer saw the gun and Taser after pulling the vehicle over and arrested three men, ages 23, 32 and 35.
