Man, 64, dies from moped crash injuries
A 64-year-old Kailua-Kona man who was injured in a moped crash Oct. 9 has died.
According to police, Michael Fox was traveling east on Hinalani Street near Anini Street and was attempting to pass a turning vehicle when his moped struck a rut in the road and crashed.
Fox was transported to Kona Community Hospital and later flown to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he was pronounced dead Oct. 10.
Police say neither excessive speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
A coroner’s inquest investigation is underway. The official cause of death is pending an autopsy report.
The accident marks the 10th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 23 fatalities at the same point last year.
