Shidler’s altruism an inspiration
Jay Shidler got in on his first commercial real-estate deal while still a business student at the University of Hawaii in the 1960s.
The illustrious alumnus has long supported his alma mater, and now has increased an earlier gift to a total of $100 million — the largest contribution by a single donor to any UH institution.
This extraordinary level of commitment by alumni is exactly what the University of Hawaii needs, among all its colleges and branches.
Shidler’s investment will fund an endowment supporting the Shidler College of Business at UH-Manoa.
Let’s hope that his generosity inspires others to give, too.
