Fire destroys Ewa Beach home, displaces 2
Fire investigators were sifting through the remains of a one-story home in Ewa Beach that was destroyed in a blaze Friday morning, displacing two people.
Damage was estimated at $230,000 to the home on Pohakapuna Road and $500 to a neighboring shed.
No one was injured, although one woman was home when the fire was reported at 8:20 a.m. The fire was brought under control 30 minutes later.
The Red Cross responded to help the two residents.
Thirty-one firefighters from nine companies responded to the alarm. Heavy black smoke and flames could be seen coming from the kitchen and the living room when firefighters arrived.
Friday’s fire was close to another one on Pohakapuna Road that destroyed another one-story home Oct. 10 and was to believed to have been deliberately set.
However, fire officials do not believe the two fires are related.
Kauai police detain teen burglary suspect
Kauai police detained a 15-year-old teenager after he allegedly burglarized a home in Hanamaulu.
A 75-year-old woman called police when she saw the suspect rummaging through items in a bedroom in her home.
Police said the suspect allegedly entered the home through a window at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the woman recognized the teenager as a resident who lives with his family in her rental studio adjacent to her home.
Sexual assault reported in East Honolulu
A 23-year-old woman reported to police she was sexually assaulted Wednesday afternoon by three male suspects in East Honolulu.
Police said the woman told police she was taken in a vehicle against her will and driven to an area where the males sexually assaulted her.
The assault occurred between 12:50 and 1:05 p.m., police said.
No one has been arrested. The case is classified as a third-degree sexual assault, which usually refers to fondling.
