2 in critical condition after car accidents

Two women were reported in critical condition after separate accidents that occurred just after midnight on Farrington Highway.

The first accident occurred at 12:10 a.m. Thursday near Kapolei Shopping Center, where a car hit a 51-year-old woman.

Lt. Carlene Lau, a police Traffic Division spokeswoman, said the pedestrian was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her condition improved to serious and then was downgraded back to critical, Lau said.

At 12:27 a.m. a 27-year-old woman fell out of a car driven by her boyfriend near Waianae High School.

An ambulance took the woman, a Waianae resident, to the hospital in critical condition, Lau said.

Inmate captured after days on the lam

A 29-year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate, who had taken out a day pass to go to church Sunday but did not return, was arrested late Thursday morning in Waipio.

Police arrested Michael Espinueva on suspicion of second-degree escape at 11:53 a.m. at Ikaloa Street and Newe Place. Espinueva did not return to OCCC Module 20 Sunday afternoon.
