Mike Kawate and Scott Ichimura went wire-to-wire to capture the inaugural H2 Invitational Saturday at Leilehua.

Kawate and Ichimura opened with a two-person scramble score of 10-under-par 62 Friday at Mililani. They followed with a 66 at Leilehua to take the Championship Flight by six shots over Isaac Jaffurs and Raymond Fortucci, and Daron Rilveria and Brandt Nishimura, who both shot rounds of 64-70.

Other flight winners were Glenn Niitani and Bob Luat in A Flight, with a score of 138, Ron Komine Jr. and Leighton Uyeda (137) in B, and Lyle Kawamata and Alan Arakawa (138) in C.

Lee seventh at Dennis Rose

Hawaii Pacific’s Sydney Lee tied for seventh in the Dennis Rose Invitational, which ended Tuesday at Waikoloa’s Beach Course.

The sophomore led the Sharks to a third-place finish in the six-team event hosted by Hawaii Hilo, which finished fourth — a shot behind HPU.

The Sharks had a 54-hole team score of 999. Sonoma State, led by medalist Haley Whitbeck, won the tournament with a score of 918. St. Martin’s was second at 964.

Lee’s total of 245 was 22 shots behind Whitbeck. Hilo sophomore Alison Tengan (247) was ninth, followed by freshmen teammates Andi Igawa (248) and Erin Costes (249). HPU’s Carly Farthing (251) tied for 12th.

The ninth annual Dennis Rose Men’s Intercollegiate is Friday and Saturday at Waikoloa Kings’. The 14-team tournament includes sixth-ranked Cal State-Monterey Bay, 12th-ranked Cal State-Stanislaus, Hilo, BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and HPU.

The first two rounds are Friday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday’s final round also has a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
