On your mark, get set … rest
The election: It’s all over but the shouting, as the saying goes, but in this case there’s not much of that going on.
This morning it’s nice to note at least a reduction in the noise of campaign ads.
Yes, there are some "mahalo" signs around, but at least they’re quiet.
Enjoy it while it lasts, which won’t be long. On the national front, long before the first vote was even cast, the pundits were yakking about Hillary Clinton, still not a declared candidate, and whoever is going to run against her for president in 2016. That’s right: two years from now.
Locally, one U.S. Senate seat and both House seats come up for grabs again, not to mention the Honolulu mayor’s job … and the list goes on.
Now that campaign season has ended, officially, let at least this shout go up from the masses: Give us a break!
For a little while, anyway.
UHPA pay raise not a done deal
University of Hawaii faculty may celebrate their across-the-board pay raises, but they would be wise to not spend the promised money right away.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie signed off on a new two-year labor contract with the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly, but he’ll be out of office by the time the Legislature takes up the $32 million pact for funding from state general funds.
That’s not to say the money won’t ultimately come through, but it’s not a bankable deal just yet.
