Food and wine fest gains big sponsors
At an event Tuesday to present $254,300 to 14 beneficiaries, the Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival announced a partnership with First Hawaiian Bank and MasterCard.
The new partners will help the festival promote Hawaii as a culinary destination while raising funds for various organizations.
This year’s festival in September gathered 82 chefs, 50 farmers, 30 winemakers and more than 250 local culinary students for 15 events.
Beneficiaries included the Culinary Institute of the Pacific, Hawai‘i Agricultural Foundation, Leeward Community College Culinary Arts Program and Maui County Farm Bureau.
The 2015 festival will be held Aug. 29 to Sept. 13.
Church to present chocolate showcase
Chocoholics: Clear your evening for the 12th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza.
Kailua’s Emmanuel Church is holding an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday. A portion of proceeds will go to Family Promise of Hawaii, which assists homeless families with children.

Speaker to address global food security
Thomas Lumpkin, an international expert in sustainable agriculture, will discuss "Global Food Security by 2050: Challenges and Opportunities," 4 p.m. Monday in the architecture auditorium on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.
Lumpkin will discuss population growth, soil degradation, falling water tables, urban-rural competition for water and climate change.

Early birds get the discount for Easter Seals Hawaii’s 15th Annual Gingerbread Family Festival. Purchase kits for $35 by Nov. 15. After that, cost will be $39.
