Man dies after leaping from car onto H-1
A man died Tuesday morning after jumping from a moving car on the H-1 freeway.
He was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office as 20-year-old Lueka Sonis of Honolulu.
Emergency Medical Services said the incident happened near the Dillingham Boulevard exit just after 4:30 a.m., as the car traveled east on the H-1 freeway.
Sonis was taken in critical condition to a hospital and died of his injuries at 5:18 a.m., authorities said.
Traffic was closed off the freeway from Dillingham Boulevard to the Middle Street Tunnel during the investigation and diverted to Nimitz Highway.
The freeway was reopened at about 5:20 a.m.
The incident has been referred to police investigators.
Teens at large after afternoon robbery
Police are looking for two teenage boys who robbed a man in Chinatown on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m., and the 59-year-old victim said two boys, about 16 or 17, assaulted him and took his personal property.
No other descriptions were released by police.
Car fire spreads to recreation center
Police are investigating a car fire that damaged a building at the Puunui Community Park in Kalihi early Monday.
The incident was reported at 1:37 a.m., and the fire, which destroyed the car, also caused minor damage to the park’s recreation center on Puunui Avenue. It was brought under control by 2:01 a.m.
