‘Iolani wins ILH water polo title
‘Iolani claimed its second consecutive ILH boys water polo title on Monday with a 9-7 victory over Punahou.
The Raiders, who won the regular season but lost in the playoff tournament, won the winner-take-all final behind two goals from four different players.
Danny Leong, Hunter Manson, Scotty Wo and Aaron Yonamine scored two goals apiece, while Trevyn Maruyama added one.
Yuki Saito had a game-high four goals and Aukai Lileikis added two for the Buffanblu.
The back-to-back ILH titles by ‘Iolani were the first by the Raiders since 1971-72.
Silverswords third in PacWest poll
Chaminade placed third in the Pacific West Conference men’s basketball preseason coaches poll and guard Lee Bailey was named to the preseason all-conference team along with Hawaii Pacific’s Justin Long.
The Silverswords received one first-place vote and trailed California Baptist and Dixie State in the poll. BYU Hawaii was fourth, HPU eighth and Hawaii Hilo 12th.
Chaminade falls at Azusa Pacific
Chaminade was swept by Azusa Pacific 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match Tuesday in Azusa, Calif.
Cassie Rushlow and Regina Johnson led the Silverswords (12-14, 5-11 PWC) with nine kills each. Alicia Utke led Azusa Pacific (12-13, 8-8) with 14 kills.
Rainbow Warriors in 13th at Princeville
The Hawaii men’s golf team enters the final round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational tied with Utah for 13th place at 8 over par.
UH shot a collective 4-over-par 292 in the second round on Tuesday.
Georgia Tech leads the 15-team field at 31 under par, with Arizona State four strokes back. Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel fired a 9 under 63 on Tuesday and leads the individual standings at 17 under. UH sophomore Skye Inakoshi is tied for 24th at 3 under.
» The UH women’s team finished 12th at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona. Izzy Leung was UH’s top finisher at 12 over, tied for 34th.
