Unoccupied home seriously damaged by fire
A mid-morning fire Wednesday caused an estimated $125,000 in damage to a $175,000 house in Pahoa.
No one was home at the time of the fire, a Hawaii County Fire Department official said.
The Fire Department’s investigator had not found the cause of the 11:15 a.m. fire in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision by late afternoon Wednesday.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the 1,056-square-foot, single-story dwelling. The house is on Maiko Street near the intersection with Kahakai Boulevard.
A fire official said the house was not close to any lava that could have sparked the fire.
Thirteen firefighters brought the blaze under control by 11:32 a.m. It was extinguished at 11:35 a.m.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family living in the home.
