Democrat Mark Takai won 15 of the 29 state House districts contained in the 1st Congressional District, including a huge swath from Nuuanu to his home area of Pearl City and central Oahu, en route to a 4-point victory over Republican Charles Djou in Tuesday’s general election.
A breakdown of precinct votes shows Takai also did well in an area stretching from downtown into Manoa and Palolo, and even captured a precinct in the Republican-held Hawaii Kai area within Djou’s former City Council district.
Takai finished with 93,360 votes, about 52 percent. Djou came away with 86,419 votes, about 48 percent.
