UH, CU win in Kama’aina tourney
Aina Cabrales pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits as the University of Hawaii softball team blanked BYU-Hawaii 12-0 in the 2014 Kama’aina Softball Tournament on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
UH’s Leisha Li’ili’i went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Rachel Lack also homered for the Wahine (1-0).

Shannon Hokama and Theresa Capllonch both hit doubles to lead the Silverswords (1-0). Brett Aspel earned the win, allowing three hits in 52/3 innings.
Taylor Alvarez led BYU-Hawaii (0-2) with two hits and a double. Chelsie Childs pitched in the loss.
McKenna paces Hawaii Pacific
Fiona McKenna earned her second individual cross country title in as many years and helped Hawaii Pacific claim third place at the PacWest Championship event held Friday in Fresno, Calif.
McKenna braved chilly conditions on the Woodward Park course and completed the 6K race in 21 minutes and 11 seconds, 18 seconds ahead of the next-closest finisher. The runner also earned All-PacWest first-team honors for her efforts and was joined by senior teammate Jamie Neal (22:06).
The Sharks finished in third place with 63 points, falling short of champion Cal Baptist (56 points) and runner-up Azusa Pacific (59 points). BYU-Hawaii (160 points) notched sixth place, while Hawaii Hilo (296 points) and Chaminade (402) finished 11th and 13th.
Chaminade falls to Point Loma
Bethany Mandon hammered 13 kills as Point Loma swept Chaminade 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 in a PacWest volleyball matchup Friday in San Diego.
Cassie Rushlow led the Silverswords with 10 kills and Natashya Enos picked up 12 digs. Chaminade (12-16, 5-13 PacWest) hit just .046 in the loss.
Savannah Wedemeyer delivered 35 assists for Point Loma, which remains 14-4 in the PacWest and 17-9 overall.
Seasiders fall at Azusa Pacific in 5 sets
The BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller to host Azusa Pacific 19-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 15-9 on Friday. Mattie Shelford recorded a match-high 19 kills for the Cougars (13-14, 9-9 PacWest).
Lacy Lange finished with a team-high 14 kills for the Seasiders, who played without senior All-American hitter Shih Ting "Stella" Chen. Talia Afalava added 11 kills and 16 digs in the loss, posting her first collegiate double-double.
BYUH remains at 15-2 in the PacWest and 18-5 overall.
