New pilot program celebrated
Mauna Loa Helicopters celebrates its new fixed-wing, professional pilot degree program with an open house Sunday.
The school will be offering free airplane flights over Waikiki from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Introductory 30-minute helicopter flights will also be available for $99.
The new program, in partnership with Troy University in Alabama, provides the skills and experience needed to pursue a career as a professional pilot. The ground and flight training can be completed at one of three bases in Hawaii and Alabama, while degree courses can be completed through Troy University’s online site.
Graduates will earn all Federal Aviation Administration certificates and ratings needed as a commercial pilot, along with an Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Applied Science in Aviation Operations.
There will also be refreshments and door prizes.
