Kapiolani Med Center to get $1M donation
The Colonel Harland Sanders Foundation will present $1 million Tuesday to the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children to support the expansion and renovation of the hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Center.
The proposed 8,000-square-foot facility will be named the Colonel Harland Sanders Pediatric Rehabilitation Center.
The center will include a reception waiting room with a designated keiki area; a therapy gym area to promote motor development, strength, mobility, balance and coordination; a multispecialty room for an augmentative communication program for children who need an assistive device to communicate or customized equipment for seating and mobility; an exercise room for older children recovering from orthopedic surgery or sports injuries, or those who need an exercise plan for weight management; a designated hearing aid evaluation, fitting and dispensing room for infants and children; and two speech therapy rooms with two-way mirrors and audio capacity for observation.
New staff workstations and offices will be integrated, along with a staff lounge and conference rooms.
Connector comparison rates online
The state Insurance Division is encouraging the public to shop and compare health plan rates starting on Saturday, the first day of open enrollment on the state’s insurance exchange.
Individuals and small businesses with 50 employees or fewer will be able to sign up for health insurance or change their existing plans on the Hawaii Health Connector, the online insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Open enrollment ends Feb. 15.
Tax credits for small businesses and subsidies for individuals are available only for plans purchased through the Connecter.
"In some cases, these cost-saving opportunities could dramatically reduce premiums," Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito said in a press release.
The Insurance Division released its premium comparison guide for 2015 Affordable Care Act health plans at cca.hawaii.gov/ins.

AT&T stops adding Web tracking codes
WASHINGTON » AT&T Mobility, the second-largest U.S. cellular provider, said Friday it is no longer attaching hidden Internet tracking codes to data transmitted from its users’ smartphones.
The practice made it nearly impossible to shield its subscribers’ identities online.
The change by AT&T essentially removes a hidden string of letters and numbers that are passed along to websites that a consumer visits. It can be used to track subscribers across the Internet, a lucrative data-mining opportunity for advertisers that could still reveal users’ identities based on their browsing habits.
Verizon Wireless, the country’s largest mobile firm, said Friday it still uses this type of tracking, known as "super cookies."
