Collectors offer expertise on Ming’s, Niihau shell items
Free appraisals of Ming’s and John Roberts jewelry and a clinic in Niihau shell identification will be part of the Wiki Wiki One Day Vintage Collectibles & Hawaiiana Show taking place 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Blaisdell Center Hawaii Suites.
Longtime collector Linda Lee will give informal verbal appraisals of the vintage jewelry. Roberts worked for Ming’s before starting his own jewelry line. Both brands, noted for hand-carved ivory flora, have been prized by generations of local women. Lee’s own collection will be on display.
Niihau lei maker and collector Donn Kashiwamura will host a Niihau shell lei, bracelet and earring identification clinic. This rare shell is found only on Niihau and can be confused with look-alikes.
Look for Lee and Kashiwamura at Table 44. The sessions will be limited to five minutes per person.
The show will also feature antiques, estate jewelry and other collectibles from 70 vendors.
General admission is $4.50. Early admission, at 9 a.m., is $15. For more information, visit www.ukulele.com/wikiwiki.html.
