‘Bows open A3 Invite
The Rainbow Warrior swimming team will attempt to defend its title at the A3 Performance Invitational in Monterey Park, Calif., starting Thursday.
UH posted 1,649 points in last year’s meet, then known as the Arena Invitational, to finish ahead of host UC San Diego. Sophomore Victor Goicoechea won three freestyle events and a relay last year while junior Paulo de Paula won two individual medleys.
UH will be joined by seven other men’s teams in the three-day meet at East Los Angeles College while the Rainbow Wahine are part of a 15-team women’s field that also includes defending meet champion San Diego State, USC and UCLA.
UH senior Jasmine Alkhaldi enters the meet with the top seed time in the women’s 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
The UH diving teams headed to Austin, Texas, this week to compete in the UT Diving Invitational, which also runs Thursday to Saturday. UH is led by Lauren Hall and Amund Gismervik, both NCAA qualifiers last season.

UH wins Pacific Coast title
The UH coed sailing team swept all three divisions to win the Pacific Coast Fall Championship hosted by UC Santa Barbara last weekend.
The Rainbows topped the 24-team field with 78 points, followed by Stanford’s 91. UH coach Andy Johnson noted the victory was particularly poignant for senior Adam Pokras, who won the A Division in his final collegiate race before graduating next month.
UH will next compete in the Peter Wenner Rainbow Invitational at Ke‘ehi Lagoon in January.
